For more than thirty years, the Administrative District of Karlsruhe and the Sha'ar HaNegev region, located in the south-west of Israel, have maintained a close relationship, which led to an offi cial partnership in 2008. This book puts the spotlight on numerous facets of a vibrant German-Israeli partnership at various levels and in different forms. The origin of the publication lies in the memoirs of the former Secretary-General of the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council, Eliahu Segal, which have been retold by the political scientist and translator Antje C. Naujoks. Presented around this personal story are the partner region in Israel as well as the German-Israeli Friendship Society for the city and district, which has existed for almost thirty years, together with some special event highlights. Finally, there is a look back upon various partnership activities since the end of the 1980s. During this time, several hundred young adults have been given the opportunity to get to know each other while taking part in the annual youth exchanges. Thus, the partnership between the Administrative District of Karlsruhe and the Sha'ar HaNegev region makes a small but important contribution to a greater understanding between the peoples.
